I really enjoyed the beginning. The book was inviting, but it didn't make me want to finish it in one day. However towards the end I got anxious and had to finish it.

What's the book about?
After her father went blind, Griet, a Protestant had to become a maid to help support her family. She was to work for the Vermeers, Catholics, who lived in the more luxurious part of town.
Set in the 1600s, the tale unravels the adventures Griet experiences whilst working for the family. Having to tolerate jealousy from the other helper, mischief from the children, and hard work from her mistresses, her life takes an unexpected twist when she begins helping Johannes Vermeer clean his painting studio. Griet is suddenly swept into a world unknown to her before, and it was never the same ever since.

What was upsetting was the ten years gap in between the story, and maybe the ending could've been happier. Nevertheless, it is already written, and it speaks about various aspects like religion, history, and the
reasoning(s) of man.
